Frequently Asked Questions EWE Might Like To Know!

 

Q: What time can I arrive and what time do I need to leave?

A: The cottage will be available from 2pm. Please would you leave before 10am.

Q: What facilities do you provide?

A: We provide toiletries eg shampoo and soap, cleaning fluids eg washing-up liquid, cloths, kitchen roll and toilet rolls. All of the beds are made up ready for your arrival. We also provide basic food provisions such as salt and pepper, vinegar etc.

Q: Are electric and heating provided?

A: Yes, these are both included in the price as is the fuel for the log burner.

Q: Do you have Wi-Fi?

A: Yes, Swallows Nest has dedicated wi-fi which is free to our guests. The password is supplied in the cottage. From the end of July 2018 we are also upgrading to super-fast fibre broadband

Q: Do you have good mobile phone signal:

A: We have limited mobile phone signal as we live in a valley, O2 is the best performing. Because of this we provide a dedicated landline which accepts and can make calls. This is operated on an honesty basis with only outgoing calls charged. Please contact us for the landline number and we’ll be happy to supply to guests once they have booked.

Q: What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

A: If you need to cancel your booking we will do our utmost to ensure it is re-let. If this can be done, at full price, then your deposit and/or balance will be returned in full minus any card fees. If we cannot re-let then your deposit and/or balance will be forfeited. We would urge you to take travel insurance to protect yourself as there is no guarantee that we can re-let your booking.

Q: What happens if I wish to change the booking to another time?

A: You will need to re-book the new dates and pay another deposit however, we will do our utmost to ensure your original dates are re-let. If this can be done at full price then your deposit and/or balance will be returned in full minus any card fees. If we cannot re-let then your deposit and/or balance will be forfeited. 

Q: What do you provide for guests with disabilities/mobility issues?

Q: What local food shops are there as I don’t want to spend my first day shopping?

A: We have a local Co-Op which has pretty much everything you need for your first and subsequent nights. It is open until 10pm each day. 15 minutes drive away is Morrisons, Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys, Lidl, Aldi and Iceland. You may also like to book a home delivery? The postcode is DL13 5AW-Low Lands Farm. We can take in shopping on your behalf but please give us at least 2 days notice so that we can be sure to be around. We take deliveries from Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda.

Q: What local shops can we walk to?

A: Cockfield is our nearest village. It boasts a: Co-Op, gift shop/cafe, newsagent, chemist, butcher, petrol garage, doctors and two churches (Methodist and Church of England).

Q: What is there to see and do in the area?

Q: Are there walks in the immediate area?

A: There are numerous walks on Cockfield Fell which is a 2minute walk from the farm. You can also go to Hamsterley Forest which is a short drive of 10 minutes where there are long and managed walks. A short drive away are the walks in and around High Force waterfall and if you fancy going a little further afield, North Yorkshire and The Lake District are 50 minutes drive.

Q: Can we participate in farm activities?

A: Yes, we love it when guests take an interest in what we do. Please ask if you would like to look around the farm or participate as it can be a dangerous place especially for youngsters due to the tractors and machinery.

Q: How many pets can I bring and is there a charge? 

A: We accepts up to 3 pets with a £10 fee per pet/week.

Q: Where can we walk our dogs?

A: There are numerous walks on Cockfield Fell which is a 2minute walk from the farm, where you can walk your dog at any time. You can also go to Hamsterley Forest which is a short drive of 10 minutes. We also allow pets to walk in our fields but please keep on a lead as we are a working farm and so have livestock. There is an enclosed dedicated garden for pets although very small (or very adventurous/agile) dogs may be able to squeeze through. If you are in any doubt, please ask and we did our best to ensure it is escape-proof for your stay.
